Abstract
  • A trailblazer in Cantonese opera Instiling new elements into a traditional art form

A unique treasure of the traditional Lingnan culture, Cantonese opera became the first art form of Hong Kong to be inscribed onto the UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009. To engage the new generation of audiences, the presentation of traditional performing arts must also keep up with the times. An artist who seeks experimentation and breakthrough, Dr Liza Wang has introduced many innovative elements into Cantonese opera performance, instiling contemporary touches into the traditional art form while preserving the beauty of Cantonese opera.
