Hong Kong People's Ancestral Origins: Guangzhou

Guangzhou, known as Yang Cheng (the city of goats), is a renowned city of Lingnan culture with a history of over 2,000 years, the origin of the Maritime Silk Road since the Qin and Han Dynasties, and China's Southern Gateway to the world. Guangzhou was the birthplace of China's democratic revolution in modern times. Three of the eleven uprisings led by Dr Sun Yat-sen were held in Guangzhou, just across a river from Hong Kong. Due to the geographical factors, the revolutions in Guangzhou also brought numerous immigrants to Hong Kong, including many martyrs who were eventually laid to rest in Hong Kong. Therefore, Guangzhou and Hong Kong are closely related. Through the talk, Dr Joseph S P Ting enables the audience to explore the abundant historical stories of Guangzhou.

有「羊城」之稱的廣州，是迄今二千多年歷史的嶺南文化名城，它是自秦漢以來形成的海上絲綢之路的發祥地，是中國通往世界的「南大門」。近現代廣州，是中國民主革命的策源地，孫中山先生領導的十一次起義中，三次就在與香港一河之隔的廣州。因地緣關係，廣州的革命運動，也為香港帶來大量移民，包括不少最終長眠香港的革命烈士，故粵、港兩地有著密切的關係。丁新豹博士透過專題講座，帶領大家一起走進羊城，訪尋廣州俯拾皆是的歷史故事。
