  • This retrospective exhibition showcases over 30 works by Hong Kong's pioneer of contemporary ink painting, Wucius Wong, spanning the years 1965 to 2015. With four thematic sections (Brush and Ink Expressions; Developing from Tradition; Structuring with Geometry; Seeking Diversities), this exhibition will allow you to understand how Wucius Wong's ink paintings bridge the East and the West, and how he innovates tirelessly with his roots firmly in Chinese culture.

    是次展覽分成四大部分(筆墨顯情、傳承立新、幾何建序、尋異求變),共展出香港新水墨先驅王無邪從— 九六五年至二0—五年的三十多幅傑作,呈現這位譽滿海內外的藝術家如何以水墨為橋,跨越東西,並致力創新,卻不棄傳統的獨特畫風。

Abstract
  • Wucius Wong
    Wucius Wong was born in Guangdong province, China in 1936 and grew up in Hong Kong. After studying art and design in the United States, he worked from 1967 to 1974 as an assistant curator at the City Museum and Art Gallery. In 1970 he was awarded a grant by the John D. Rockefeller III Fund to study and tour in the US for a year. In 1974 Wucius Wong joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic as a senior and later principal lecturer in the School of Design and remained with the School until he moved to the US in 1984. During his ten years' career at the Polytechnic, Wucius Wong made significant contributions to the development of the School of Design, and indeed the design industry of Hong Kong.

    Following his return to Hong Kong in 1996, Wucius Wong received an Emeritus Fellowship from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in 1998. In 2007 he was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star Medal by the Hong Kong SAR Government, and he was an honouree at Asia Society's Art Gala in 2015. Wucius Wong currently serves as an adjunct professor in the Department of Fine Arts, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and an adviser to many art bodies, including the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government.

    一九三六年生於東莞虎門鎮,幼年遷居香港。一九六一年負笈美國攻讀藝術及設計,六五年學成回港。六七年出任香港博物美術館助理館長,七0年獲洛克斐勒三世基金會獎學金,赴美遊學一年。一九七四年獲香港理工大學前身,香港理工學院禮聘,擔任設計系高級講師,七七年晉升為設計學院首席講師,至八四年移民美國為止。期間在藝術創作、設計理論研究方面,進入成熟階段。任內建樹良多,既改革課程,另延聘多位優秀教師以加強師資,更培育無數學子成材,對理大設計學院乃至香港設計界發展得以蒸蒸日上、享譽全球,居功至偉。

    一九九六年回港定居,九八年獲香港藝術登展局授與藝術成就奬,0七年獲香港特別行政區政府頒授銅紫荊星章,一五年獲亞洲協會嘉許為年度榮譽藝術家。現任香港中文大學藝術系兼任教授、香港特區政府康樂文化署博物館專家顧問等職。
