  • Mr Cheng Kok-kong, Hong Kong's celebrated lyricist, is Artist-in-Residence 2017 /18 of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In an illustrious career that spans nearly 60 years, Mr Cheng has more than 2,000 Canto-pop songs to his credit. Many of his songs still enjoy immense popularity to this day, and some lines of his lyrics even become popular quotes.

    Though touching on myriad themes, Mr Cheng's lyrics are widely known for their uplifting tone and educational messages, shining a ray of hope on a great many lost souls. Mr Cheng is also much commended for his social consciousness to which scores of his works bear witness. He has written multiple songs about and for his hometown. Even when Hong Kong was at its lowest ebb, Mr Cheng's lyrics have always reminded Hong Kong people of this all-important thing: never lose faith.

    Mr Cheng has received numerous accolades in recognition of his contributions to Hong Kong and its music industry. To name a few of Mr Cheng's honours: Award for Outstanding Contribution in Arts, Hong Kong Arts Development Awards (2016); Honorary University Fellow, Hong Kong Baptist University (2016); Honorary Fellow, The Hong Kong Institute of Education (now The Education University of Hong Kong) and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (2014); Golden Needle Award, RTHK Top 10 Gold Songs Awards (1992); Outstanding Lyricist Award, Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies (2008); and CASH Hall of Fame Award, Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong (2002).



    鄭國江先生對香港流行音樂界乃至香港社會,建樹良多,獲頒授重要榮譽及獎項包括:香港藝術發展獎「傑出藝術貢獻獎」(二零一六年);香港浸會大學榮譽大學院士(二零一六年);香港教育學院(今香港教育大學)丶香港演藝學院榮譽院士(二零一四年);十大中文金曲頒獎音樂會「金針獎」(一九九二年);香港戲劇協會頒發「傑出填詞獎」(二零零八年);香港作曲家及作詞家協會頒發「CASH 音樂成就大獎」(二零零二年)。
