  • This year's Artist-in-Residence Programme consists of three main activities: Exhibition, Mentoring Programme and Meet-the-Artist Session. The Exhibition traces the unfolding of life in six phases, presenting a selection of Mr Cheng's popular classics and masterpieces of literary finesses. Mr Cheng has specially written a preface to each phase in which he elaborates on the inspirations for his lyrics and their meaning, while the featured works are accompanied by selected personal items such as handwritten manuscripts, paintings, calligraphy works and awards. We hope visitors to the Exhibition will gain insights into Mr Cheng's artistic approach and technique, appreciate the poetic nuance of his lyrics, and grasp the meaning and thoughts that resound between the lines.

The Mentoring Programme took place in February this year, when participating students and staff of PolyU had the opportunity to meet Mr Cheng and write their own lyrics under his guidance. The Meet-the-Artist Session will be held on 26 March 2018, when Mr Cheng will talk about his career in lyric-writing and offer insightful advice to aspiring lyricists.
