The non-mandatory language enhancement initiatives, developed and run by the English Language Centre (ELC) and Chinese Language Centre (CLC), aim to develop learners' linguistic competence in English and Chinese

As reported last year, the University introduced a new language policy with effect from September 2005. The major elements of this new policy, which applies to English, Putonghua and written Chinese, are: the credit-bearing Profession Related Language Training (PRLT) subjects, the Language Enhancement Programme (LEP) and the Graduating Students' Language Proficiency Assessment (GSLPA)
